Description

High-Performance Joint Backfill

Würth PE Backfill Sealant is a closed-cell polyethylene backer rod engineered to provide optimum joint filling performance in sealing and expansion joints. Manufactured in accordance with DIN 18540, it delivers consistent quality and reliability in both residential and commercial applications.

Silicone-Free, Rot-Resistant Material

The polyethylene construction is completely silicone-free, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of sealants. Its closed-cell structure makes the product non-absorbent and rot-resistant, preventing water penetration and ensuring a stable, long-lasting joint base.

Prevents Three-Edge Adhesion

By creating a defined joint depth, the backer rod effectively prevents three-edge adhesion. This minimises mechanical stress on the sealant, greatly reducing the likelihood of cracking and ensuring joint flexibility throughout its service life.

Convenient Handling and Supply

Diameters from ∅6–30 mm are supplied in roll goods packaged in a dispenser carton with a pre-punched opening for easy dispensing. Larger diameters of ∅40 mm and 50 mm are supplied as bar goods, each 1m in length, ensuring practicality for a wide range of installation scenarios.

Wide Range of Applications

Ideal for use in plumbing installations, concrete expansion joints, and window connection joints, this universal solution offers flexibility and reliability across multiple trades.

More Information

Application Instructions

  1. Ensure the joint is clean, dry, and free from dust, oil, and loose debris.
  2. Select a backer rod diameter slightly larger than the joint width to ensure a snug fit.
  3. Insert the PE Backfill Sealant into the joint using a blunt tool or roller, avoiding damage to the closed-cell structure.
  4. Set the backer rod at the correct depth to establish a controlled sealant thickness according to the DIN 18540 requirements.
  5. Apply the sealant over the backer rod, ensuring full contact with the joint sides but no adhesion to the base.

Usage Notes

  • Do not overstretch or compress beyond the recommended limits.
  • Avoid installation in direct sunlight where surface temperatures exceed 60°C.
  • Store in a dry, cool place away from open flames or high heat.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
