Key Features

  • Permanently elastic, oxime-curing silicone sealing compound designed for engine, transmission, and bodywork applications.
  • Forms a cold-vulcanising silicone rubber seal that bridges surface irregularities and compensates for expansion and vibration.
  • Excellent adhesion on metals, plastics, and painted surfaces - remains secure even after years of use under vibration and temperature cycling.
  • Does not run or pull threads, enabling clean and controlled application.
  • Chemically resistant against oils, coolants, and automotive fluids for long-lasting sealing performance.
  • Fast skin formation within 8-15 minutes; full vulcanisation at approx. 1.5 mm per day.
  • Remains permanently elastic, preventing cracking or leakage caused by movement or thermal stress.
  • Temperature resistant from -50°C to 150°C, with short-term peaks up to 180°C.
  • Transparent finish for discreet, professional results on visible or exposed surfaces.

Description

Professional-Grade Silicone for Engine and Vehicle Sealing Applications

Würth Engine Sealing Compound Silicone Special 180 is a high-quality, oxime-curing silicone rubber sealant developed for sealing engines, transmissions, and bodywork components. It creates a durable, flexible seal that maintains integrity even under heat, vibration, and exposure to oils or fuels.

Cold-Vulcanising , Permanently Elastic Seal

The compound cures at room temperature to form a cold-vulcanised silicone rubber that retains flexibility and elasticity over time. It effectively bridges surface unevenness and provides a long-term, leak-free joint seal, even under mechanical stress.

Reliable Long-Term Sealing Performance

Thanks to its excellent chemical and temperature resistance, the sealant remains stable in contact with engine oil, coolant, and hydraulic fluids. It withstands temperatures up to 150°C in continuous operation and short-term peaks of 180°C, making it ideal for use in engine and powertrain environments.

Clean Application and Controlled Curing

The compound does not run, sag, or thread-pull during application, ensuring neat bead placement on both horizontal and vertical surfaces. It achieves skin formation within 8-15 minutes, depending on ambient conditions, and cures at approximately 1.5mm per day under standard humidity and temperature.

High Flexibility and Vibration Resistance

Once cured, the silicone remains permanently elastic with a Shore A hardness of 18and elongation at break of 300%,. allowing it to absorb continuous movement and vibration. It maintains up to 25% movement absorption at temperatures up to 150°C, and 18% above that range, ensuring long-lasting joint stability.

Versatile Application Range

Suitable for a wide range of vehicle and machinery sealing applications including:

  • Engines, cylinder heads, crankcases, oil pans, and radiators.
  • Transmissions, differentials, and housing assemblies.
  • Bodywork joints, lighting housings, weld seams, and indicator casings.

More Information

Application Instructions

  1. Ensure the surfaces are clean, dry, and free from oil, grease, and dust.
  2. Apply a uniform bead of the sealant to one of the surfaces using a cartridge gun or nozzle.
  3. Assemble parts carefully, avoiding excessive compression of the joint.
  4. Allow to cure under ambient conditions; curing speed is approximately 1.5mm per day at 23°C and 50%RH.
  5. For optimal performance, allow the seal to fully cure before subjecting to operating pressures or high temperatures.

Usage Notes

  • Processing temperature: 5°C to 60°C.
  • Temperature resistance: -50°C to 150°C (short-term up to 180°C).
  • Store in a cool, dry area below 25°C.
  • Shelf life 18months from production when stored correctly.
  • Ensure adequate air circulation during curing; thicker layers will extend curing time.
