Swissvax Onyx 30% Carnauba Wax
Swissvax Onyx is an entry-level handcrafted carnauba wax offering 30% pure Brazilian Grade One carnauba with impressive gloss depth and reliable environmental protection. The forgiving application and 3–6 month durability make it ideal for beginners and everyday drivers seeking straightforward, effective paint protection.
Key Features
- 30% Pure Brazilian Grade One Carnauba — Premium carnauba sourced from Brazil and formulated in Switzerland delivers genuine protection and gloss enhancement without the premium price point of higher-concentration Swissvax waxes.
- Impressive Depth of Gloss — The 30% carnauba concentration creates a noticeable gloss enhancement, providing that handcrafted wax appearance and depth that separates premium products from budget alternatives.
- Excellent Water-Beading Properties — The formulation creates reliable water repellency with strong beading action that encourages water to run off the paint rather than pooling, speeding drying and preventing water spotting.
- 3-6 Months Durability — The realistic protection window reflects typical usage - vehicles driven regularly or in harsh climates see shorter durability, whilst garaged vehicles or those in mild climates can approach 6 months between applications.
- Forgiving Application Technique — Unlike some premium waxes requiring surgical precision, Onyx tolerates minor application mistakes, making it ideal for users developing wax application skills without the risk of poor results from technique imperfections.
- Easy Hand Application — The wax applies smoothly by hand without requiring complex equipment or extended working times, making it accessible to DIY enthusiasts and those without professional polishing tools.
Description
Why Entry-Level Wax Serves as Gateway to Premium Products
Swissvax is known for premium, high-concentration carnauba waxes that demand perfect surface preparation and precise application technique. These premium products deliver exceptional results but can be intimidating for users developing their detailing skills. Onyx serves a critical role as the entry point — it delivers genuine Swissvax quality and Swiss craftsmanship at an accessible price point, with forgiving application that builds user confidence. Many users who start with Onyx eventually graduate to premium Swissvax products as their skills and detailing ambitions develop.
Brazilian Grade One Carnauba as Quality Foundation
Carnauba wax quality varies significantly by source and processing. Grade One Brazilian carnauba represents the highest quality available — it's the material used in the finest waxes globally. Even at 30% concentration, Grade One carnauba provides superior gloss and protection compared to lower-grade carnauba in higher-concentration products. Swissvax's sourcing and formulation ensures every Onyx application delivers authentic, quality carnauba wax benefits.
Durability as Realistic Expectation
The 3–6 month durability range reflects actual real-world performance variation based on usage patterns and environmental conditions. This honest specification sets realistic expectations rather than overstating longevity. Users understand that frequent driving, harsh weather, or intense sun exposure will reduce durability; users in mild climates with garaged vehicles can achieve the upper range of protection.
Forgiving Formula for Skill Development
Premium waxes often have tight working windows and strict application requirements — they require clean, cool surfaces, specific environmental conditions, and precise technique. Onyx's forgiving nature means minor application mistakes (slight over-application, working in suboptimal conditions, inconsistent technique) don't result in poor finishes. This tolerance allows users to learn and develop skills without fear of ruined results.
Hand Application Accessibility
Professional detailers often use machine polishers to apply wax for efficiency, but hand application remains the gold standard for care and precision. Onyx's hand-application focus appeals to users who prioritise quality and the traditional luxury experience of handcrafting protection onto their vehicles.
More Information
Application Instructions
- Prepare the painted surface — Wash the vehicle thoroughly with a quality car shampoo and allow to dry completely. For optimal results, use Swissvax Cleaner Fluid to pre-treat the surface and remove any remaining contamination.
- Allow paint to cool — Ensure the paint is cool to the touch. Applying wax to warm paint causes excessive evaporation and poor adhesion.
- Work in shade — Apply Onyx in a shaded area, away from direct sunlight. Sunlight accelerates solvent evaporation and can cause uneven application.
- Apply in small sections — Work on manageable sections (approximately 2x2 feet) rather than attempting to wax the entire vehicle before buffing.
- Apply thinly by hand — Using a clean, soft cloth or applicator pad, apply Onyx in thin, even layers. Less product is better than excess — heavy application wastes product and makes buffing more difficult.
- Use circular motions — Work the wax onto the paint using gentle circular motions, ensuring even coverage across the section.
- Allow to haze — Once applied, allow the wax to cure for 2–5 minutes until a light haze forms on the surface. The haze indicates the wax is ready for buffing.
- Buff to high gloss — Using a clean, soft microfibre cloth, buff away the haze with firm, circular or straight-line motions until a brilliant gloss is revealed.
- Inspect the finish — Under good lighting, verify the section has even gloss and no haze or residue remains.
- Work remaining sections — Repeat the process for remaining panels, maintaining consistent application technique and buffing pressure throughout.
- Allow full curing — Once all sections are complete, allow the wax to cure for several hours (ideally overnight) before exposing the vehicle to moisture or washing.

FAQs
Is Onyx suitable for someone new to waxing, or do I need experience?
Onyx is specifically designed for beginners. The forgiving formula tolerates minor application mistakes, and the hand-application process is straightforward. Unlike some premium waxes requiring precise conditions and technique, Onyx allows you to develop skills without fear of poor results.
How does Onyx compare to premium Swissvax waxes?
Onyx uses 30% Brazilian Grade One carnauba and delivers genuine Swissvax quality at an entry-level price point. Premium Swissvax products contain higher carnauba concentrations (50%+) and offer extended durability and refined gloss development. Onyx is the gateway to premium products as your skills develop.
Is pre-treatment with Cleaner Fluid really necessary?
Pre-treatment is recommended for optimal results. Cleaner Fluid removes contamination that can prevent wax adhesion and gloss development. However, thorough washing and drying may be sufficient on cleaner vehicles — pre-treatment is most important after periods of parking or on contaminated surfaces.
Can I apply Onyx to vehicles with ceramic coatings?
Onyx is formulated for paint protection. Ceramic-coated vehicles typically don't require wax because the coating provides superior protection. If desired as a maintenance topper, test on an inconspicuous area first to ensure compatibility with your specific ceramic coating.
