Koch Chemie Rrr Reactive Rust Remover

Koch Chemie RRR is a pH-neutral reactive rust remover that dissolves superficial rust, brake dust, and metal particles without aggressive acids. A unique colour change indicator shows when the reactive agents are actively working.

Key Features

  • Acid-Free pH-Neutral Chemistry — Safe on painted surfaces, clear coats, and sensitive finishes without the corrosion risk of traditional acidic rust removers.
  • Colour Indicator Shows Active Cleaning — The formula turns violet when it has dissolved rust and contamination, providing visual confirmation that the reactive agents are working effectively.
  • Dissolves Burnt-In Contamination — Extended contact time allows reactive agents to penetrate and dissolve heavy brake dust and metal particles that surface cleaners cannot remove.
  • Gentle on Materials — Despite powerful cleaning action, the formula is engineered to be safe on paint, glass, and wheel rims without damage or discolouration.
  • Easy Rinsing — Special surfactants disperse dissolved dirt particles, allowing complete removal with thorough rinsing — no scrubbing required.

Description

Why Superficial Rust Requires Specialised Chemistry

Superficial rust — the light orange or brown discolouration on wheel rims and painted surfaces — develops when metal particles from brake pads, industrial fallout, or vehicle corrosion oxidise on the surface. Standard wheel cleaners and degreasers cannot dissolve rust chemically; they can only remove surface dirt. Traditional rust removers rely on strong acids that quickly dissolve rust but can also damage paint finishes and clear coats. Koch Chemie RRR solves this with a pH-neutral formula containing reactive agents that specifically target rust oxidation without the aggressive acidity that causes collateral damage.

Extended Contact Time for Stubborn Contamination

Heavy brake dust and burnt-in metal particles require time for cleaning chemistry to penetrate and dissolve the contaminants. Many wheel cleaners work quickly at the expense of effectiveness — they rinse away before the reactive agents have time to work. Koch Chemie RRR's formulation is designed for extended contact time (3–6 minutes), allowing reactive agents to thoroughly dissolve tough contamination. This longer dwell time means a single application often achieves what multiple quick applications with faster-drying products cannot.

Colour Change Indicator for Confidence in Results**

The unique violet colour change is practical feedback — it shows you when the reactive agents have dissolved the rust and contamination. This visual indicator helps you determine optimal treatment time and ensures you're achieving maximum cleaning effectiveness before rinsing. The colour change confidence eliminates guesswork about whether the product is working.

Gentle Treatment for Premium Finishes**

Wheels represent a significant investment, and many feature delicate finishes — polished aluminium, protective clear coatings, or specialty paint. Traditional acidic rust removers gradually dull and damage these finishes. Koch Chemie RRR's pH-neutral approach is specifically engineered to clean aggressively without damaging finishes — allowing you to restore heavily contaminated wheels without the risk of surface degradation.

Application Instructions

  1. Allow wheels to cool — If wheels are hot from driving, allow them to cool to ambient temperature before applying RRR. Hot surfaces may cause premature evaporation and reduce effectiveness.
  2. Test on inconspicuous area first — Particularly on polished aluminium or specialty finishes, test RRR on a small, hidden area to confirm compatibility before treating visible surfaces.
  3. Spray undiluted product — Apply Koch Chemie RRR undiluted directly onto the affected surfaces (wheel rims, rusted areas, or brake-dust-covered sections). Spray generously to ensure complete coverage.
  4. Allow reaction time — Let the product sit for 3–6 minutes without rinsing. The reactive agents need time to dissolve rust and contamination. During this time, the formula will turn violet, showing that it's actively working.
  5. Watch for colour change — The colour change to violet indicates the product has dissolved the rust. Deeper or more stubborn contamination may require the full 6-minute reaction time.
  6. Optional agitation for heavy contamination — For extremely heavy brake dust or burnt-in particles, gently agitate with a soft brush or sponge during the final minute of reaction time. Avoid aggressive scrubbing, which could scratch finishes.
  7. Rinse thoroughly — Use a powerful water jet or pressure washer to rinse away the product and dissolved contamination completely. Multiple rinses ensure all rust particles and residue are removed.
  8. Do not allow to dry — Never allow RRR to dry on the surface. Always rinse whilst the product is still wet. Drying can leave residue or cause incomplete cleaning.
  9. Dry the wheels — Dry treated wheels with a microfibre cloth to prevent water spotting and to inspect the cleaning results.

FAQs

Is RRR safe on my painted wheel rims or polished aluminium?

RRR is pH-neutral and safe on most finishes, but test on an inconspicuous area of polished aluminium or specialty finishes first to confirm compatibility. The formula is safe on standard painted and clear-coated surfaces.

How long should I let RRR sit before rinsing?

Allow 3–6 minutes of reaction time depending on contamination severity. Light rust requires 3–4 minutes, whilst heavily burnt-in brake dust benefits from the full 6 minutes. The colour change to violet indicates the reactive agents are working effectively.

What does the colour change to violet mean?

The violet colour indicates the reactive agents have dissolved the rust and contamination. This visual feedback shows the product is working effectively. Always rinse once the colour change occurs — do not allow the product to dry on the surface.

Can I use RRR on surfaces other than wheels?

Yes, RRR can be used on painted surfaces, glass, and other areas affected by rust, metal particles, or heavy brake dust. However, test on inconspicuous areas first, particularly on specialty or sensitive finishes.
