Description

When Heavy Cut Polish Is Necessary

Most paint defects can be corrected with light to medium polish, but heavily weathered vehicles with deep scratches, sanding marks from previous repair work, or severe paint mist from industrial fallout require more aggressive abrasive action. Standard medium polishes simply cannot remove these defects — they're designed for minor surface scratches and light oxidation. Koch Chemie Heavy Cut H9.02 provides the cutting power necessary to restore severely compromised paintwork in a single polishing session, eliminating the need for multiple passes with lighter compounds that would waste time and product.

Cutting Power Without Sacrificing Gloss

The challenge with coarse polishing compounds is balancing cutting action with final gloss — aggressive abrasives often leave dull, scratched surfaces that require additional finishing steps. Koch Chemie's innovative abrasive grain technology achieves high cutting action whilst maintaining gloss level, reducing the need for finishing polish. The extremely homogeneous abrasive grain ensures consistent cutting action across the entire pad surface, preventing uneven results and the over-polished or under-polished patches common with inferior compounds.

Sanding Trace Removal for Previously Repaired Panels

Vehicles that have undergone panel repair often show visible sanding traces from the preparation process — orbital or random-orbital sander marks that catch light and reveal the repair work. These deep linear scratches require coarse abrasive action to remove completely. Heavy Cut H9.02 is specifically formulated to eliminate sanding traces up to 1,200 grain, allowing repaired panels to blend seamlessly with original paintwork.

Low Dust for Improved Working Conditions

Traditional coarse polishes generate substantial dust clouds during machine application, creating poor visibility and inhalation concerns in the workshop. Koch Chemie Heavy Cut H9.02's advanced abrasive grain design minimises dust formation, improving visibility during the polishing process and reducing respiratory exposure for the operator.

More Information

Application Instructions

  1. Prepare the vehicle — Clean the paint surface thoroughly with a pre-wash cleaner to remove loose contamination. Allow the surface to dry completely before polishing.
  2. Allow paint to cool — Do not polish hot surfaces. Allow the vehicle to cool to ambient temperature before beginning the polishing process.
  3. Shake the compound well — Mix Heavy Cut H9.02 thoroughly before use to ensure even consistency and optimal abrasive distribution.
  4. Apply to a lambskin or Heavy Cut pad — For sanding traces of 1,200–2,500 grain, use a lambskin pad. For sanding traces of 1,500–3,000 grain, use the dedicated Heavy Cut Pad. Apply a small amount of compound to the pad — a few dabs across the surface is sufficient.
  5. Use crosswise polishing motion — Begin polishing in a crosswise pattern (side-to-side and then up-and-down) with a rotary polisher at medium speed and medium pressure. This overlapping motion ensures even coverage and prevents uneven results.
  6. Polish until the compound breaks down — Continue working the compound across the panel until it becomes translucent and breaks down naturally. Do not add more compound mid-panel — allow it to work completely before moving to the next section.
  7. Inspect results and repeat if needed — Wipe away residue with a microfibre cloth and inspect the result. Repeat polishing on additional areas as needed for full coverage.
  8. Finish with Micro Cut M3.02 or Micro Cut & Finish P3.01 — After Heavy Cut polishing is complete, use a light finishing polish (Micro Cut M3.02 for continued cutting, or Micro Cut & Finish P3.01 for final gloss) to refine the finish and achieve optimal clarity and depth.

FAQs

Is Heavy Cut H9.02 safe to use on all paint types?

Yes, the formula is suitable for all paint types including soft single-stage finishes and modern hard scratch-proof clearcoats. Test on a small, inconspicuous area first to confirm compatibility if working on unfamiliar vehicles.

What sanding traces can this compound remove?

Heavy Cut H9.02 effectively removes sanding traces up to 1,200 grain (using a lambskin pad) or up to 3,000 grain (using a Heavy Cut pad). For finer sanding traces, a lighter compound like Micro Cut M3.02 may be more appropriate.

Do I need to use a finishing polish after Heavy Cut, or can I stop there?

Whilst Heavy Cut retains good gloss for a coarse compound, using a finishing polish afterward (Micro Cut M3.02 or Micro Cut & Finish P3.01) refines the finish and delivers optimal clarity, depth, and reflection. This is recommended for professional results.

Can I use Heavy Cut on wet or hot surfaces?

No, do not apply to hot surfaces — allow the paint to cool to ambient temperature. Work on dry surfaces only. If washing the vehicle before polishing, allow at least one hour of drying time before beginning the polishing process.
