Flexipads Microfibre Cutting Pad 135mm
Flexipads Microfibre Cutting Pad is a hybrid polishing pad engineered to bridge the performance gap between dual-action and rotary polishers. The microfibre and polyurethane construction delivers strong cutting action for light to moderate defect removal with safety and control.
Key Features
- Strong Cutting Action — Microfibre construction provides aggressive cutting power suitable for swirl marks, light scratches, and surface defects that require meaningful abrasive action.
- Bridges Dual-Action and Rotary Performance — The pad design delivers aggressive cutting comparable to rotary polishing whilst maintaining the safety profile and ease of use of dual-action polishers. This hybrid approach appeals to users seeking cutting power without rotary polisher complexity.
- Suitable for Medium and Hard Paints — The pad formulation is optimised for modern paint hardness, delivering consistent cutting action on both softer single-stage paints and harder modern clear coats.
- 7mm Foam Thickness for Stability —The substantial foam layer provides structural support and stability, preventing pad flexing or unstable contact that could create uneven results or swirl marks.
- High RPM and OPM Capability — Supports up to 4800 RPM and 4500 OPM (oscillations per minute), allowing flexible operation across a range of polisher types and speeds.
Description
Why Dual-Action and Rotary Polishers Have Different Performance Profiles
Dual-action polishers (also called orbital polishers) operate with a unique motion combining rotation and orbital oscillation. This dual motion makes them inherently safer — if you lose control or apply excessive pressure, the polisher won't create swirl marks because the motion isn't purely rotational. However, this safety comes at a cost: dual-action polishers deliver moderate cutting action, making them less effective on significant defects. Rotary polishers, in contrast, deliver aggressive cutting action but require skill to avoid swirl marks and uneven results. Many users desire the cutting power of rotary polishing without the skill requirement and swirl-mark risk. Flexipads Microfibre Cutting Pad is engineered specifically for this gap — it delivers rotary-comparable cutting action whilst remaining safe and forgiving on dual-action machines.
Microfibre-Polyurethane Hybrid Construction
The combination of microfibre and polyurethane foam creates a unique material profile. Microfibre provides superior cutting action and durability compared to standard wool or synthetic fibres. Polyurethane foam provides the structural support and flexibility that allows even contact across the work surface. Together, they create a pad that cuts aggressively without the brittleness of pure microfibre or the limited cutting power of pure foam pads.
Bridging Safety and Aggression
The hybrid design appeals to professional detailers who want reliable cutting action but don't always have time to set up and carefully operate rotary polishers. On a dual-action machine, the Flexipads Microfibre pad delivers significantly more cutting power than standard foam pads, whilst the dual-action motion prevents swirl mark risk. This makes it ideal for production work where speed and safety matter equally.
Optimised for Modern Paint Systems
Modern automotive paints — whether factory single-stage or refinish clear coat systems — have hardness characteristics that differ from older paints. The Flexipads pad is engineered for this modern hardness, delivering consistent cutting action without the variable results that generic pads produce on contemporary paint systems.
Stability Through Adequate Foam Thickness
Thin foam pads flex excessively under polisher head pressure, creating unstable contact and uneven results. The 7mm thickness in Flexipads' construction provides sufficient rigidity to prevent flexing whilst remaining flexible enough to conform to panel contours. This stability is critical for achieving even cutting across an entire panel.

Application Instructions
- Attach to polisher backing plate — Secure the 135mm pad to the hook-and-loop backing plate of your dual-action or rotary polisher using the provided attachment system.
- Select appropriate compound — Choose a cutting compound formulated for the defects you're addressing. The pad works with most cutting compounds; match compound aggressiveness to defect severity.
- Prepare the paint surface — Wash and dry the vehicle thoroughly. For best results on textured or contaminated paint, use a clay bar for decontamination.
- Apply compound to pad or surface — Apply cutting compound to either the pad or the paint surface. Start with a conservative amount — you can always add more.
- Spread the compound — Before polishing at speed, spread the compound evenly across the work area using slow circular motions or back-and-forth movements.
- Begin at low speed — Start the polisher at low speed (500–1000 rpm for dual-action, 1000–1200 rpm for rotary) to assess cutting action and ensure even product distribution.
- Increase to working speed — Once spread, increase to working speed (1500–2000 rpm for dual-action, 1500–2500 rpm for rotary, depending on paint hardness and defect severity).
- Work systematically across panels — Move methodically across the painted surface, working in overlapping sections to ensure complete coverage and even results.
- Monitor cutting action — Observe the paint under good lighting for defect removal progress. Adjust speed or pressure as needed to balance cutting action with safety.
- Refine as needed — Once light to moderate defects are removed, wipe away residue and inspect results. Additional passes may be needed for deeper defects.
- Finish with appropriate secondary compound — Follow cutting with a finishing compound on a softer pad to refine gloss and remove any micro-scratches created during cutting.

FAQs
Can I use the Flexipads Microfibre Cutting Pad on a dual-action polisher and get rotary-level cutting?
The pad delivers significantly more cutting power on a dual-action machine than standard foam pads, approaching rotary performance. However, the dual-action motion inherently limits cutting aggression compared to a true rotary polisher. You'll get strong cutting action with excellent safety; expect 80–90% of rotary cutting power with better swirl-mark protection.
What's the difference between this pad and a standard foam cutting pad?
The microfibre construction provides superior cutting action and durability compared to standard wool or synthetic foam pads. The polyurethane foam provides structural support and stability that prevents flexing and uneven results. The combination delivers more aggressive cutting whilst maintaining pad stability.
Is this pad safe for beginners, or does it require professional experience?
On a dual-action polisher, the Flexipads pad is safe for beginners because the dual-action motion prevents swirl marks even if technique isn't perfect. On a rotary polisher, proper technique is more important — beginners should practice on test panels first and maintain consistent speed and pressure.
Will this pad work with any cutting compound, or do I need specific products?
The pad works with most cutting compounds. Match the compound aggressiveness to your defect severity — lighter compounds for minor defects, more aggressive compounds for deeper scratches. Experiment with different combinations to find what works best for your specific application.
