Farecla G-Mop Advanced Compounding Foam
Farecla G-Mop Advanced Compounding Pad is a 6-inch dual-layer foam compounding pad engineered for fast, effective cutting action. The two-layer foam construction delivers aggressive defect removal ideal for eliminating sanding scratches and swirls using medium-to-high cut compounds.
Key Features
- Eliminates Sanding Scratches Effectively — The aggressive cutting action removes linear sanding marks and defects that require powerful abrasive action, significantly faster than lighter compounds and pads.
- Fast Cutting Action — The dual-layer foam design prioritises cutting power, delivering aggressive defect removal that reduces the number of polishing passes required for complete correction.
- Dual-Layer Foam Construction — Two engineered foam layers work together - the top layer provides cutting action whilst the bottom layer absorbs vibration and distributes pressure evenly across the work surface.
- General-Use Versatility —Suitable for use with Farecla's range of classic automotive compounds, providing flexibility to match compound aggressiveness to specific defect severity.
- Works on Multiple Surface Types — Positioned between aggressive cutting pads and fine finishing pads, the compounding pad serves as the middle stage in a three-stage correction workflow.
Description
Dual-Layer Design for Balanced Cutting and Stability
Aggressive cutting pads often suffer from poor vibration control — the pad bounces or chatters, creating uneven cutting and new defects. Farecla's dual-layer approach balances aggression with stability. The top layer provides the cutting action needed for sanding scratches and swirls, whilst the bottom layer absorbs vibration and distributes pressure evenly. This combination delivers fast cutting without the instability risk common with single-layer aggressive pads.
Intermediate Stage Within Correction Workflow
Professional paint correction uses a staged approach: cutting (aggressive removal of deep defects), compounding (intermediate refinement of medium defects), and polishing (final gloss enhancement). The G-Mop Compounding Pad occupies the middle stage perfectly. After aggressive cutting removes major defects, the compounding pad refines the surface and removes the micro-scratches created by cutting, preparing the surface for final gloss enhancement with a finishing pad.
Sanding Scratches as Specific Defect Target
Sanding scratches — linear marks from orbital or random-orbital sanders during paint prep — require aggressive cutting to remove completely. Lighter pads and compounds smear and mask these defects without actually removing them; they reappear once the masking product washes away. The G-Mop Compounding Pad's fast cutting action actually removes sanding scratches, providing permanent correction rather than temporary masking.
Classic Compound Compatibility**
Farecla's "classic automotive compounds" range represents proven formulations used in professional bodyshops for decades. The compounding pad is engineered to work optimally with these compounds, which are medium-to-high cut formulations. This compatibility ensures you're using matched pad-and-compound systems developed together rather than generic combinations that represent engineering compromises.
General-Use Versatility Across Surface Types
The pad's compatibility with paint, lacquer, and GRP (marine gelcoat) surfaces makes it valuable for shops handling diverse repair and restoration work. This versatility reduces the need for multiple pad inventories whilst ensuring consistent, appropriate cutting action across different material types.
More Information
Application Instructions
- Attach to rotary polisher backing plate — Secure the 150mm G-Mop Advanced Compounding Pad to the appropriate backing plate (AGM-BP14 or AGM-BP58) on a compatible rotary polisher (Farecla GPT002, GPT003, or GPT050).
- Select medium-to-high cut compound — Use Farecla's classic automotive compound range or another medium-to-high cut compound formulation appropriate for your specific defects.
- Prepare the paint surface — Ensure the surface is clean and dry. For best cutting action, the paint should be at ambient temperature (avoid hot surfaces).
- Apply compound — Apply an appropriate amount of compound to the pad or paint surface. The aggressive cutting action requires adequate product for optimal performance.
- Spread at low speed — Start the rotary polisher at low speed to distribute the compound evenly across the work area before increasing to cutting speed.
- Increase to working speed — Once spread, increase rotary speed to approximately 1200–1500 rpm for optimal sanding scratch and swirl removal.
- Work systematically across panels — Move the pad methodically across the painted surface, working in overlapping sections to ensure complete coverage and even results.
- Monitor defect removal — Observe under proper lighting for sanding scratch and swirl elimination progress. The fast cutting action means visible progress relatively quickly.
- Maintain appropriate pressure — Moderate pressure is optimal — excessive pressure accelerates cutting but increases heat generation and can create new micro-scratches.
- Complete the compounding stage — Once sanding scratches and obvious swirls are eliminated, the compounding stage is complete. Wipe away residue.
- Follow with finishing pad — Complete the correction process by using a Farecla G-Mop Advanced Polishing Pad with appropriate finishing product for final gloss enhancement and hologram elimination.

FAQs
What's the difference between the Compounding Pad and the Polishing Pad?
The Compounding Pad is for intermediate correction with medium-to-high cutting action, ideal for sanding scratches and swirls. The Polishing Pad is for final finishing with fine cutting action and gloss enhancement, ideal for hologram elimination. Use the Compounding Pad first, finish with the Polishing Pad.
Can I use the compounding pad on a dual-action polisher?
No, Farecla does not recommend this pad for dual-action polishers. The dual-layer foam design is engineered for rotary polisher characteristics. Using on dual-action equipment would not deliver optimal results.
What compounds work best with the G-Mop Compounding Pad?
Farecla's classic automotive compound range is optimally engineered with this pad. Other medium-to-high cut compounds work effectively, but the matched Farecla system delivers the best performance and results.
How aggressive is the compounding pad compared to cutting pads?
The compounding pad is less aggressive than dedicated cutting pads but more aggressive than finishing pads. It occupies the middle stage of a three-stage correction workflow, providing effective defect removal without the extreme cutting power of first-stage cutting pads.
