SKU:
Low stock
⚙ Ideal For
- Vehicle AC odour elimination
- Evaporator cleaning
- Seasonal maintenance
- Post-winter freshening
- Mould and bacteria removal
✔ Benefits
- Targets root cause
- Expanding foam formula
- One-can full system
- Ozone-safe propellant
- Fresh scent finish
Vehicle air conditioning systems develop musty, unpleasant odours when mould and bacteria colonise the damp evaporator core inside the dashboard. Air fresheners mask the smell without treating the source. Standard aerosol mists are drawn through the system too quickly to dwell on contaminated surfaces where biofilm and deposits accumulate.
CRC Airco Cleaner Pro addresses this with an expanding foam formula that coats and penetrates the evaporator fins and air ducts, remaining in contact with contaminated surfaces for the full 15-minute dwell time needed to break down bacterial biofilm and deposits at the source.
Key Features
- Targets the root cause of AC odours — Mould and bacteria colonise the damp evaporator core, not the vents or ducts. This cleaner reaches the evaporator directly to treat contamination at the source rather than masking symptoms.
- Expanding foam formula — Foam expands on contact to coat and penetrate evaporator fins, air ducts, and surrounding surfaces; achieves far greater coverage than a liquid or aerosol mist that passes through too quickly.
- One-can full system treatment — The contents of a single aerosol treat the entire air conditioning system completely; no measuring or partial treatments required.
- Ozone-safe propellant — Formulated with an ozone-safe propellant, meeting environmental requirements for refrigerant and aerosol products used in vehicle servicing.
- Fresh scent finish — After treatment, the system is left with a clean, fresh smell rather than residual chemical odour associated with some competing products.

Description
CRC Airco Cleaner Pro is a specialist aerosol foam cleaner formulated to remove bacteria, mould, and contamination that build up on vehicle air conditioning evaporators — the most common cause of musty, unpleasant smells from car vents. The expanding foam formula treats the entire system in a single application, penetrating the evaporator core where standard sprays cannot effectively dwell.
Why AC Systems Develop Odours
The evaporator operates by cooling air rapidly, causing moisture to condense on its surface. This constant dampness, combined with organic matter drawn in through the cabin air intake, creates ideal conditions for mould and bacterial growth. The problem is typically worst after periods of inactivity — most noticeable at the start of the season after a car has sat unused over winter.
Foam Penetration vs Standard Sprays
Conventional aerosol treatments spray a mist into the intake; most is drawn through the system too quickly to dwell on contaminated surfaces. The foam formula expands to fill the evaporator housing and air ducts, staying in contact with surfaces for the full 15-minute dwell time needed to break down biofilm and deposits effectively.
Checking the Drain Before Treatment
Before applying, confirm that the air conditioning condensate drain is clear. Evaporators produce significant condensate during operation, and a blocked drain can cause water to back up into the cabin — particularly relevant after winter inactivity when debris can accumulate in the drain channel.
Electrical Component Awareness
The foam must be applied gradually and carefully via the intake channel to prevent contact with electrical components such as the radio or cabin electronics near the intake. The instructions specify gradual application for this reason; do not discharge the can in a single burst.
More Information
Application Instructions
- Remove filter systems — Remove the dust/pollen filter and any other filter systems to fully open the air conditioning intake channel.
- Check the AC drain — Confirm the air conditioning condensate drain is clear of obstructions before starting.
- Start the engine — Start the engine and allow it to idle with the air conditioning turned OFF.
- Apply foam gradually — Spray the foam gradually into the intake channel; apply slowly to prevent foam from contacting electrical components near the intake (e.g. the radio unit).
- Allow dwell time — Turn off the engine and leave the foam to dwell for 15 minutes without disturbing the system.
- Run the system — Restart the engine and leave at idle speed for 10–20 minutes with the heating and ventilation system set to maximum.
- Ventilate thoroughly — Keep doors and windows open and leave the car bonnet up during the entire process and until the active foam has fully evaporated.
- Reinstall filters — Reinstall filters once the treatment is complete and the system has run through fully.
Safety note: Apply only via the intake channel and gradually to prevent foam contacting electrical components. Ensure adequate ventilation throughout the treatment and drying period. Do not apply in a single burst or discharge the entire can at once.

FAQs
Why does my AC smell musty if I only have a new cabin filter?
A new cabin filter prevents incoming dust and pollen, but it doesn't address mould and bacteria already colonised on the evaporator core inside the dashboard. The musty smell originates from the evaporator surface itself, not the filter or vents.
Can I use this if my AC condensate drain is blocked?
No; you must clear the drain before treatment. A blocked drain can cause condensate to back up into the cabin during or after treatment. Check the drain is clear before applying the foam.
Do I need to remove the dashboard to apply this?
No; the foam is applied gradually through the air intake channel (where the cabin air filter sits) without removing any panels or components. Gradual application prevents the foam from contacting electrical components like the radio.
How often should I treat my AC system?
Seasonal treatment or after extended periods of inactivity (such as winter storage) is recommended. More frequent treatment may be necessary in hot, humid climates where bacterial growth is accelerated.
