CarPro Velvet Orange Peeling Pad 135mm
CarPro Velvet Orange Peel Removal Pad is a 135mm polishing pad engineered for removing orange peel and moderate paint defects whilst simultaneously polishing the paint. The 3000-grit equivalent cutting delivers finer results than the more aggressive Denim pad, with improved safety and reduced cutting risk.
Key Features
- 3000-Grit Equivalent Cutting Action — Delivers cutting power comparable to 3000-grit sandpaper - finer than traditional 2000-grit sanding, reducing the risk of over-cutting through clear coat.
- Removes Orange Peel Without Sanding Haze —Eliminates orange peel texture and defects whilst polishing the paint, avoiding the dull appearance and heavy dust generation of mechanical sanding.
- Simultaneous Paint Polishing — The pad polishes the paint whilst removing defects, significantly reducing the finishing step required to achieve final gloss and clarity.
- Breather Perforations for Heat Management — Engineered perforations prevent paint dust clogging and allow airflow that maintains lower temperatures during extended use, reducing heat-related paint risk.
- Refined Alternative to Denim Pad — For orange peel removal where the 2000-grit Denim pad might be too aggressive, the Velvet pad
Description
The Challenge of Orange Peel Severity Variation
Orange peel severity varies considerably between paint jobs. Some vehicles have subtle, light orange peel that requires gentle removal; others have severe, deep texture that demands aggressive action. The Denim pad (2000-grit equivalent) is ideal for severe orange peel but carries higher risk of over-cutting through clear coat on less severe cases. The CarPro Velvet pad (3000-grit equivalent) addresses the middle ground — it removes moderate orange peel and surface texture with finer cutting action and reduced over-cut risk. This makes it the safer choice for most orange peel situations.
Finer Grit Equivalent for Reduced Risk
The difference between 2000-grit and 3000-grit sandpaper is subtle but meaningful. 3000-grit removes defects more gradually and refinedly, requiring longer working time but delivering superior safety margins. For operators less familiar with paint gauge readings or those working on vehicles with unknown clear coat thickness, the Velvet pad's finer action provides a safety buffer against cutting into the colour coat.
Simultaneous Polishing Eliminates Haze**
Mechanical sanding creates visible haze as it cuts — the operator can see progress visually. The Velvet pad's simultaneous polishing action masks the cutting progress, making it harder to judge how much material is being removed. This is why manufacturer cautions about the pad being "deceptive" apply here too. However, the finer grit equivalent action provides some visual feedback of progress as the orange peel gradually disappears.
Breather Perforations for Production Efficiency
Professional shops removing orange peel from multiple vehicles daily benefit from the pad's perforations. They prevent excessive dust clogging and heat buildup, reducing fatigue during extended use and minimising product clogging that would slow work. Less cleanup between passes means more efficient production workflow.
Strategic Pad Selection Within the CarPro Range
CarPro offers both Denim (2000-grit) and Velvet (3000-grit) orange peel pads for strategic selection. Start with the Velvet for most applications; escalate to the Denim only for severe, stubborn orange peel that Velvet cannot adequately address. This hierarchy provides safety-first guidance whilst maintaining options for challenging situations.

Application Instructions
- Attach to rotary polisher — Secure the 135mm CarPro Velvet Orange Peel Removal Pad to the hook-and-loop backing plate of a rotary polisher.
- Prime with CarPro Fixer — Apply CarPro Fixer or appropriate cutting compound to the pad to prime it and prepare the cutting surface.
- Apply compound conservatively — Apply a few drops of cutting compound to the paint surface or pad according to your skill level. Begin with minimal product.
- Spread evenly — Spread the compound across the work area using low-speed slow circular motions before increasing polisher speed.
- Begin on low speed — Start the rotary polisher at low speed (300–600 rpm) to distribute the compound evenly and assess pad performance.
- Increase to working speed — Increase speed to approximately 1200 rpm (adjust based on cutting progress and paint response) for orange peel removal.
- Work manageable sections — Work 2x2 ft sections or larger depending on experience. Larger sections distribute heat better; smaller sections allow better control.
- Observe progress carefully — Use proper lighting to observe orange peel reduction as you work. The finer grit action means subtle progress — avoid over-cutting by monitoring closely.
- Apply additional polish as needed — As the polish dries, add more product or spray water onto the pad to re-activate lubricants and extend working time.
- Reduce speed for finishing — As you complete each section and become satisfied with orange peel removal, reduce polisher speed to 600 rpm for the final pass.
- Refinish with secondary pad — Once Velvet pad work is complete, refine the finish using a foam or microfibre polishing pad and appropriate finishing polish.
- Final inspection — Under good lighting, verify that orange peel has been substantially reduced or eliminated and paint maintains acceptable gloss and clarity.

FAQs
What's the difference between the Velvet and Denim orange peel pads?
The Denim pad is 2000-grit equivalent — more aggressive for severe orange peel. The Velvet pad is 3000-grit equivalent — finer action for moderate orange peel with reduced over-cut risk. Choose Velvet for most applications; use Denim only for stubborn, severe orange peel that Velvet cannot adequately address.
Why do I need a paint thickness gauge for this pad?
The pad cuts aggressively, and you need to know your clear coat thickness to ensure you're removing orange peel from the clear coat only, not cutting into the colour coat. A gauge provides the safety measurement necessary for proper operation.
Can I use the Velvet pad on vehicles where I don't know the clear coat thickness?
The manufacturer recommends against using any orange peel removal pad without knowing clear coat thickness. The finer Velvet action provides some safety margin compared to the Denim pad, but the safest approach is to measure before starting.
How much more refined is the Velvet pad compared to the Denim pad?
The 1000-grit difference between 2000 and 3000 grit represents a meaningful refinement in cutting action. The Velvet pad removes orange peel more gradually and with finer results, plus it carries lower risk of cutting through clear coat on moderately orange-peeled surfaces.
