Description
Contact Adhesive Bonding Advantages and Application Flexibility
Contact adhesives enable rapid assembly without clamping or extended cure times—surfaces are pressed together and bond immediately. This speed advantage is valuable in production and maintenance settings. SA-90's formulation balances immediate tack with repositioning flexibility, enabling precise placement before final pressing. This combination of speed and control is particularly valuable for upholstery, trim, and precision bonding applications.
Spray Application and Overspray Control
Brush or roller application of contact adhesives is messy and creates uneven coverage. SA-90's aerosol spray delivery provides clean, controlled application with even coverage. The adjustable spray pattern enables wide mist for large areas or narrow spray for precision work, adapting to diverse application requirements. Minimal overspray maintains cleanliness and reduces waste on adjacent surfaces.
Multi-Substrate Compatibility Across Diverse Materials
Contact adhesives often require different formulations for different substrates—metals, wood, ceramics, textiles. SA-90's universal compatibility eliminates the need for multiple products. Automotive applications benefit particularly—bonding upholstery, foam, trim, and various interior materials with a single adhesive. This versatility simplifies inventory and reduces training requirements.
Automotive Upholstery and Interior Assembly
Automotive upholstery assembly traditionally used mechanical fasteners or complex clamping during glue curing. SA-90's contact adhesive approach enables rapid assembly without additional fasteners. Foam-backed carpet, trim panels, and upholstery bond permanently whilst the slight flexibility accommodates vibration and temperature cycling. The clean aerosol application maintains professional appearance without adhesive residue on finished surfaces.
Carpet and Floor Covering Installation
Commercial carpet tiles and foam-backed carpeting require rapid bonding without extended curing. SA-90's immediate tack enables installation with minimal labour time. The flexible bond accommodates thermal expansion and foot traffic stress that would crack rigid adhesives. Coverage of 3–5 m² per can provides economical operation for large installation projects.
Display and Signage Mounting
Temporary or permanent signage mounting requires reliable adhesion without damage to mounting surfaces. SA-90's flexible bond provides security whilst remaining slightly repositionable if adjustment is needed. The clean spray application prevents adhesive squeezing out around edges, maintaining professional appearance on visible surfaces.

Application Instructions
Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and grease-free. Remove dirt, dust, paint, polish, and loose material—contamination reduces adhesive effectiveness.
Shake the aerosol can well before use. Mix thoroughly to ensure uniform adhesive consistency and propellant distribution.
Spray SA-90 directly onto both surfaces to be bonded. Apply from approximately 15 cm distance, covering both mating surfaces with even coating.
Use the adjustable spray pattern for application control. Adjust the pattern to match the surface area and application precision required.
Minimise overspray through precise application. Direct the spray pattern to cover bonding surfaces without extending onto adjacent areas.
Allow the adhesive to become tack-dry. Wait approximately 3–4 minutes at normal room temperature (longer at lower temperatures) for the solvent to evaporate slightly.
Monitor tack-dryness before final pressing. The surface should feel dry but remain slightly sticky; test with a fingertip to confirm tack readiness.
Press the surfaces together with firm, even pressure. Once tack-dry, press surfaces together with steady, consistent force across the entire bonded area.
Hold pressure for several seconds. Maintain pressure for at least 30–60 seconds to ensure full contact and bond initiation.
Allow full cure time before stress loading. Although tack is immediate, allow several hours before subjecting the bond to stress or vibration.
For porous surfaces, apply two coats. Porous materials may absorb adhesive into the surface; apply a second coat after first drying and repeat the tack-dry and pressing process.
Clear the nozzle after use. Invert the can and spray a small amount of product to clear the nozzle, preventing blockage.
Store in dry location at 5–25°C. Temperature control ensures adhesive stability and optimal shelf life.

FAQs
Can SA-90 be repositioned after initial contact, or is the bond permanent once surfaces touch?
SA-90 allows repositioning within a limited window—once surfaces are pressed together whilst tack-dry, the bond sets relatively quickly but can still be separated and repositioned if done immediately. However, the longer surfaces remain in contact, the stronger the bond becomes. For precise alignment requirements, position and press immediately whilst adjusting as needed within the first 30–60 seconds. After final pressing is complete and held for several seconds, the bond is effectively permanent.
How long should I wait after applying SA-90 before pressing surfaces together, and what indicates readiness?
Wait 3–4 minutes at normal room temperature for the adhesive to become tack-dry. At lower temperatures, extend the wait time accordingly. Test readiness by touching the surface with a fingertip—it should feel dry but remain slightly sticky. Pressing too early when surfaces are wet results in squeezed-out adhesive and poor bond; pressing too late after complete drying reduces the bond's effectiveness. Tack-dryness is the optimal condition.
Is SA-90 suitable for bonding foam to rigid materials, or should it only be used on similar material types?
SA-90 is specifically engineered for bonding diverse material combinations including foam to rigid surfaces. Foam-backed carpet bonding is an ideal application—the adhesive bonds the foam backing to the carpet fibres and the rigid floor surface. The flexibility of the bond is particularly valuable for foam applications where rigid adhesives would crack under material compression and expansion. SA-90 excels on foam applications.
What surfaces or applications should I avoid with SA-90, and are there any material compatibility concerns?
Avoid use on surfaces requiring disassembly or temporary bonding—SA-90 creates permanent bonds that are difficult to separate. Not suitable for plastics that might dissolve in solvent-based adhesives—test inconspicuous areas first. Avoid use where flexibility isn't desired or where maximum rigidity is critical; rigid epoxies are more appropriate. For polyethylene, polypropylene, and certain plastics, test compatibility before committing to assembly.
