3M Scotch-Weld Super Fast Instant Adhesive SF100
3M Scotch-Weld Super Fast Instant Adhesive SF100 is a low-viscosity cyanoacrylate engineered for rapid curing and high productivity, bonding challenging substrates including plastics, rubber, leather, cork, and wood. The flexible container and cut-to-size nozzle enable precise application whilst surface-insensitive chemistry bonds contaminated and acidic materials effectively.
Key Features
- Super-Fast 3-5 Second Curing — Exceptionally rapid cure keeps production moving and enables immediate handling after bonding.
- Low-Viscosity Thin Bond Layer — Creates thin, effective bond layers without excessive squeeze-out or dripping on vertical surfaces.
- Flexible Container Control — Pinch for precise single drops of squeeze for steady beads of desired length, simplifying application technique.
- Surface Insensitive Chemistry — Bonds effectively to contaminated, acidic, difficult plastics, and rubbers that challenge standard cyanoacrylates.
- Cut-to-Size Nozzle Application — Enables targeted, controlled application with minimal waste and maximum precision.
Description
Ultra-Fast Curing for Production Efficiency
Standard instant adhesives require 10–30 seconds work time before significant set; SF100's 3–5 second window represents a dramatic productivity advantage. Projects progress rapidly without extended waiting periods between assembly steps. This ultra-fast performance is critical in high-volume manufacturing where each second of labour time compounds across thousands of units.
Low-Viscosity Flow for Difficult Substrates
Thick or high-viscosity adhesives struggle on smooth, non-porous surfaces like plastics and rubber—they don't flow adequately to wet and bond the joint. SF100's low viscosity flows quickly into contact interfaces, creating thin, effective bond lines on substrates where conventional adhesives create weak or failed bonds. This flow advantage is particularly valuable for smooth plastic and rubber applications.
Surface Insensitivity Without Moisture Dependency
Standard cyanoacrylates require minute surface moisture to initiate cure; SF100 relies less on surface moisture, enabling bonding on dry, contaminated, or acidic surfaces that defeat conventional products. This independence from moisture conditions expands applications to challenging real-world conditions where surfaces are rarely ideal.
Contaminated and Acidic Surface Bonding
Wood, cork, leather, and many natural materials have acidic pH that interferes with standard cyanoacrylate curing. SF100's formulation overcomes this challenge, bonding these materials reliably despite their acidic character. This versatility addresses material combinations that would fail with conventional adhesives.
Precision Application Through Flexible Container
Rigid-bottle adhesives are difficult to control—either nothing flows or it pours uncontrollably. SF100's flexible container allows pinching for single drops or squeezing for controlled beads. The cut-to-size nozzle further enables targeted application without waste or over-application.
Industrial Specification Compliance
Meeting CID A-A-3097, Type II, Class 1 specifications indicates military-grade performance and reliability standards. This compliance is valuable for applications where performance standards and traceability are mandated.
More Information
Application Instructions
Identify substrates and prepare surfaces. Ensure bonding surfaces are clean and positioned for alignment; light roughening of smooth plastic improves adhesion.
Avoid excessive moisture on surfaces. Although SF100 is less moisture-dependent than standard cyanoacrylates, ensure surfaces are not wet or dripping.
Select application method based on joint type. Pinch the flexible container for single precise drops on small areas; squeeze for steady beads on longer joints.
Apply adhesive to one surface only. Dispense adhesive to one bonding surface—application to both surfaces wastes product and provides no adhesion advantage.
Bring surfaces together immediately. With 3–5 second work time, position and press bonded surfaces together without delay.
Apply firm pressure and hold. Press surfaces together with firm, even pressure and hold for 30–60 seconds as initial set develops.
Maintain alignment during holding. Movement during the initial holding period interferes with bond development—keep surfaces stationary and aligned.
Release after initial set. After 60–90 seconds, the bond is sufficiently developed to release without joint separation.
Avoid stress on bonds during curing. Although initial set is rapid, avoid pulling or twisting bonded assemblies until full 24-hour cure is complete.
For critical or load-bearing bonds, use clamping. Fixtures or clamps during the 24-hour cure period ensure consistent pressure and maximum strength development.
Store properly for extended shelf life. Close the nozzle cap tightly immediately after use; store at 4°C to maintain adhesive performance.

FAQs
What's the advantage of 3–5 second work time compared to standard instant adhesives with longer work times?
Super-fast curing dramatically improves productivity—parts set immediately, allowing next assembly steps without waiting. In high-volume production, seconds compound across thousands of units, making SF100's ultra-fast cure a significant efficiency advantage. The trade-off is less time for positioning, but the flexible container's control compensates.
Can SF100 bond to EPDM rubber and difficult plastics that standard cyanoacrylates struggle with?
Yes. SF100's low-viscosity, surface-insensitive formulation bonds these difficult materials effectively. The low viscosity flows into contact interfaces on smooth plastic and rubber surfaces where thick adhesives would fail. Surface insensitivity overcomes the chemical incompatibilities that challenge standard products.
How do I control application with the flexible container, and can I switch between precise drops and steady beads?
Pinch the flexible container gently for single, precise drops on small joints; relax pressure for no flow. Squeeze steadily for controlled beads of desired length. The flexible format allows easy switching between application methods without changing bottles or nozzles. Practice control initially to master the technique.
Is SF100 suitable for load-bearing or structural applications, or only for light assembly?
SF100's 2900 psi shear strength indicates substantial load-bearing capability. It is suitable for structural bonding and demanding applications. However, for maximum strength and reliability on critical applications, allow full 24-hour cure and use clamping or fixtures to maintain consistent pressure throughout curing.
