3M Perfect-It Fast Cut Compound

1. Prepare the painted surface — Ensure flatted or sanded paint has been cleaned to remove all dust and debris from the sanding process.
2. Allow paint to cool to ambient temperature — Do not apply compound to warm surfaces. Allow adequate cooling time after sanding.
3. Shake the compound bottle well — Mix Fast Cut thoroughly to ensure uniform abrasive distribution.
4. Select orange compounding pad — Use a 3M Perfect-It orange compounding pad, engineered as the companion tool for this compound.
5. Attach pad to backing plate — Secure the orange pad to the 3M Perfect-It backing plate on your rotary or dual-action polisher.
6. Apply compound to pad — Apply a small amount of Fast Cut Compound to the orange pad. Start conservatively — you can always add more.
7. Spread at low speed — Start the polisher at low speed to distribute the compound evenly across the work area.
8. Increase to working speed — Increase polisher speed to optimal compounding speed (typically 1200–1500 rpm for rotary, 1000–1400 rpm for dual-action).
9. Work with controlled technique — Apply moderate pressure, allowing the compound's aggressive action to do the work. Excessive pressure accelerates cutting but increases heat generation.
10. Work systematically across areas — Move methodically across sanded surfaces, working in overlapping sections to ensure complete sanding scratch removal.
11. Monitor cutting action — Observe the gradual elimination of sanding scratches as you work. The fast-acting formula means visible progress relatively quickly.
12. Apply additional compound as needed — If areas require more aggressive cutting or if compound dries, apply more to the pad.
13. Wipe away residue — Once sanding scratches are removed, wipe away compound residue with a clean cloth.
14. Follow with finer compound — Complete the process using 3M Perfect-It Fine Compound or High Gloss Machine Polish with appropriate black waffle pad for final gloss achievement.
