Description
High-Tack Bonding for Rapid Assembly
Manufacturing and assembly require rapid production cycles where extended cure times reduce efficiency. Double-coated tapes with high initial tack enable immediate bonding—components bond on contact without clamps, fixtures, or cure waiting periods. GPT-020's high-tack formulation delivers immediate grip, accelerating assembly workflows. This rapid bonding capability is particularly valuable for production environments where cycle time directly impacts throughput and profitability.
Universal Substrate Compatibility for Diverse Material Combinations
Industrial assembly typically involves material combinations—metal frames bonded to plastic trim, film adhesion to composite backing, glass panels bonded to metal frames. Each material combination presents different surface energy characteristics. GPT-020's modified acrylic chemistry addresses this diversity through formulation bonding reliably to both high-energy materials (metals, glass, ceramics) and low-energy materials (plastics, films, coatings). This universal compatibility eliminates adhesive selection paralysis and simplifies inventory.
Extreme Temperature Performance for Harsh Environments
Industrial applications present diverse thermal challenges—arctic outdoor signage, automotive interiors under dash heat, electronics exposed to operational temperatures. Traditional pressure-sensitive tapes fail at extremes—adhesion loss, substrate delamination, or carrier degradation. GPT-020's -40°C to +149°C capability accommodates this full spectrum. Short-term excursions to 149°C (temporary high-temperature exposure) are tolerated; long-term applications maintain 93°C performance without degradation.
Transparent Bonding for Aesthetic and Display Applications
Visible adhesive compromises appearance in retail displays, signage, and consumer products. GPT-020's transparent polyester carrier remains invisible after bonding, enabling clean aesthetic presentation. Point-of-purchase displays benefit particularly—product mounting appears seamless, enhancing visual presentation without adhesive visibility. This aesthetic advantage supports marketing and brand presentation objectives.
Flexible Film Conformability to Complex Geometries
Rigid carriers bridge gaps and fail to conform to curved or textured surfaces. GPT-020's flexible polyester film conforms to irregular surfaces—curved panels, textured substrates, composite layups. This conformability ensures complete contact across entire bonded area, maximising adhesive performance and preventing edge lift or bridging that would reduce bond strength.
Solvent-Free Adhesive Coating for Environmental Responsibility
Solvent-based adhesive coating produces substantial chemical emissions and CO₂ waste. GPT-020 uses proprietary solvent-free coating technology, substantially reducing manufacturing emissions compared to solvent-based alternatives. This environmental benefit aligns with sustainability objectives and supports green procurement initiatives.
Permanent Bonding for Durable Assemblies
GPT-020 provides permanent bonding—once pressed into place, components remain bonded indefinitely. This permanence is appropriate for assemblies requiring long-term reliability; it's unsuitable for temporary or repositionable applications. Permanent bonding eliminates future separation concerns, creating assemblies suitable for extended service life.
More Information
Application Instructions
Clean both substrates thoroughly. Remove dirt, dust, grease, oil, and contamination from bonding surfaces—cleanliness is essential for optimal adhesion.
Verify substrate compatibility with tape. Ensure both materials are suitable for adhesive bonding; porous or very soft materials may require testing first.
Measure and cut the tape to required length. Determine bonding area and cut GPT-020 to appropriate dimensions; avoid waste whilst ensuring sufficient coverage.
Remove the primary liner from the tape. Peel back the white polycoated kraft liner, exposing the adhesive on one side.
Position tape on one substrate surface. Apply the exposed adhesive side to one of the substrates, pressing firmly for several seconds to activate adhesion.
Remove the secondary backing liner. Peel away the second liner, exposing the adhesive side facing outward.
Press the second substrate into place. Position the second substrate on the exposed adhesive and press firmly with even pressure across the entire bonded area.
Apply sustained pressure for bond activation. Hold the assembly together for 30–60 seconds, allowing adhesive to transfer and activate.
Allow brief cure time before loading. Although initial tack is immediate, allow 24 hours for full adhesive development before subjecting bonds to stress or load.
For curved or irregular surfaces, press from centre outward. Apply pressure starting at the centre of the bonded area, working outward to eliminate air bubbles and ensure complete contact.
Use a roller or hard surface to apply pressure uniformly. For large areas, use a paint roller or hard-surfaced tool to apply consistent pressure across the entire bonded surface.
Check edge adhesion and contact. After pressing, inspect edges and corners to confirm complete adhesive transfer and contact with substrate.

FAQs
Can GPT-020 be used on plastic and low-energy material surfaces, or only on metals and glass?
GPT-020 is specifically formulated for both high-energy materials (metals, glass) and low-energy materials (plastics, films, composites). The modified acrylic adhesive chemistry addresses the full spectrum of surface energy characteristics. This universal bonding capability is a key advantage—a single tape works across plastic trim, metal frames, composite backings, and mixed-material assemblies without requiring different adhesive products.
What's the difference between short-term (149°C) and long-term (93°C) temperature ratings, and how do I know which applies to my application?
Short-term temperature rating applies to temporary exposure or brief high-temperature conditions—perhaps a few hours or days at elevated temperature. Long-term rating applies to sustained operation where components remain at elevated temperature continuously or repeatedly. For automotive interiors with occasional temperature spikes but no sustained heat, 149°C short-term rating applies. For components adjacent to continuous heat sources, use 93°C long-term rating to ensure lasting performance.
Is GPT-020 suitable for bonding foam materials, and will the adhesive degrade foam surfaces?
GPT-020 is compatible with foam materials including expanded foam, closed-cell foam, and elastomeric foams. The modified acrylic adhesive doesn't degrade foam or cause surface degradation. However, foam's compressible nature requires adequate pressure during bonding to ensure complete adhesive transfer. Use a roller or pressing tool to compress the foam and activate the adhesive. Test on scrap foam first if concerns exist about compatibility.
Can GPT-020 be repositioned or removed after application, or is the bonding permanent?
GPT-020 provides permanent bonding once pressed into place—the tape is not repositionable. If repositioning is required, peel the tape away while fresh (within minutes of application); removal after adhesive sets is extremely difficult and may damage substrates. For applications requiring repositioning capability, use removable double-coated tapes rather than GPT-020. Permanent bonding ensures lasting assemblies without future separation concerns.
